Why this blog?

Dear Reader,

As we start this journey together, a few words about where we intend to go might help you evaluate whether this trip is of interest.

Our destination is inspired by Colossians 2:2-3, in which the Apostle Paul longs for the saints,

"That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

These verses present some clear truths.

1. There are treasures to be had. These treasures are real despite being intangible. In fact, 2Corinthians 4:18 declares that the only enduring things in life are invisible as that which can be seen is merely temporal and hence, ultimately meaningless.

2. These treasures are in Christ. If the real treasures of life are in Christ (which they are), then it stands to reason that the only way to lay hold on these treasures is through diligent study of the infallible authority of God's word.

3. The real treasure is understanding. Far too much of what passes for spirituality today is tradition, superstition, or emotion. It is not based upon the objective truth of God's word and is nearly always wrong. We will strive to come to understanding not through man’s wisdom or customs or supposed knowledge of the original languages but simply literal belief in the text that God has chosen to preserve. In English, God’s word is found in The Authorized King James Version.

4. It is understanding that gives assurance. The world is a complex, noisy and difficult to understand place. The problems that the world increasingly faces reveal that man has not figured out the issues of life and that he wanders in the dark without direction, purpose, or confidence. However, by coming to understanding of what God is doing today, we can have assurance both for now and the life to come.

Finally, Dear Reader, we claim not to possess all (or even a great measure) of understanding, but we do claim to desire it and to know where it can be found. We hope that you will embark on this journey with us and that you will find it to be rewarding.
